I decided to make a satirical, karate-inspired infomercial for this project because I am a black belt in Taekwondo. Because infomercials are very serious about the product they are selling, I wanted to create a sense of seriousness about an absurd subject matter. Consequently, I created the character "Master Eric Dorf, Three Time World Martial Arts Champion of Cancun Mexico fighting" to sell a karate video. In the video, "Master Dorf" teaches the viewer how to use nun chucks, catch a fly and even break a cracker on their head. Much of my influence was from Tae-Bo infomercials and the Ab-cruncher. |
